What is the Social Integration Model™?
Navigating the complexities of life outside the comfort of familiar surroundings can be a daunting challenge for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). At The Stables, we recognize the significance of preparing our residents for life beyond our facilities. That’s why we utilize the Social Integration Model™, a comprehensive and proven approach tailored for mental health disorders, including ASD.
Our commitment to the well-being and success of our clients drives every aspect of our treatment methods, all of which are firmly rooted in the Social Integration Model™, founded by Pasadena Villa. This model is designed to give individuals the tools and skills they need to successfully reintegrate into everyday life, allowing them to regain control over their lives.
The Pillars of the Social Integration Model
The Social Integration Model™ is a multifaceted approach that incorporates various components to ensure comprehensive care and support. Learn more about the key elements that make up this model:
- Community Residential or Supportive Residential Homes: Our commitment to creating a seamless transition to independent living is evident in our community residential and supportive residential homes. These environments allow our residents to experience a home-like setting while receiving the necessary support and guidance from our dedicated staff within our autism program. We believe that fostering a sense of independence within a supportive community is key to long-term success.
- Frequent Outings to Hone Social Skills: One of the foundational components of our model is the integration of frequent outings aimed at honing social skills. We understand that individuals with ASD often struggle with social interactions, and these outings provide real-world scenarios for them to practice and refine their social abilities. Whether it’s a grocery store trip, a local park, or a community event, these outings offer invaluable learning opportunities.
- Balancing Treatment with Real-Life Activities: We recognize that life doesn’t stop during treatment. That’s why we provide our clients with the flexibility to volunteer, attend school, or work while continuing their treatment. This integrated approach ensures that individuals with ASD can apply what they’ve learned in real-life situations, enhancing their ability to function independently.
- Integrated Therapy within the Community: Our integrated therapy sessions take place within the community, allowing residents to practice the skills they’ve acquired in a natural environment. This approach bridges the gap between theory and practice, effectively empowering our residents to apply their newfound knowledge to everyday life.
The Social Integration Components
- Relevant: Our team of clinicians serves as “Social Mentors,” providing a constant and meaningful presence in a therapeutic environment. Through strong therapeutic alliances, ongoing feedback, support, and guidance, our clinicians help individuals with ASD work toward their personalized treatment goals. Activities are selected based on the resident’s preferences, ensuring that progress made during treatment continues to influence their life decisions long after they’ve completed their program.
- Real Time: Our licensed mental health professionals constantly observe and intervene, as necessary, in real time. These observations are seamlessly integrated into each client’s treatment plan, enabling them to practice and apply their acquired skills to future situations.
- Life Strategies: In a natural and authentic environment, our residents receive expert clinical care and guidance from our licensed staff. They engage in a wide range of real-life activities within the local community, all while practicing the essential life skills necessary for a socially fulfilling future post-treatment. These activities extend to our facilities, where residents share meals at one large banquet table, providing opportunities to model, practice, and learn proper social and communication skills.
At the Stables, The Social Integration Model™ is not just a treatment approach; it’s a lifeline for adults with autism spectrum disorder seeking to regain control of their lives. By immersing residents in real-life situations, offering continuous support, and tailoring activities to individual needs, we empower individuals with ASD to thrive in a world that might have once seemed overwhelming.
Our commitment to their journey is unwavering, and our results speak for themselves. We have witnessed countless success stories of individuals who have emerged from our program with newfound confidence and the skills they need to lead fulfilling lives in their communities.
